Doug is a certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Rider Coach who enjoys helping people learn to ride a motorcycle in a safe manner. Riding a motorcycle is Doug's favorite mode of transportation and he has been doing it for over five decades.
He purchased his first motorcycle in 1971 and taught himself to ride on the streets of Seattle (before formal safety training was ever offered.) In 1982 Doug took his first MSF riding class and was shocked to learn how much he didn't know about riding safely on public roads. He learned a lot that summer day in 1982.
Doug became an MSF Rider Coach in 2000 and has been teaching the MSF curricula ever since. His earnings as a Rider Coach pay for his road trips to distant parts of the USA. He enjoys exploring new roads and new vistas via his motorcycle. Doug's current ride is a Honda VFR1200F. He tends toward the sporting end of the motorcycle spectrum and enjoys carving curves.
Doug has been married since 1981. His wife still rides 2-up with him on occasion. They have two grown children and a grandson. In his leisure, Doug races 1:32 scale slot cars up and down Colorado's Front Range.
